Copperplate engraving in Paris.
In January 1995, I had no idea I would be moving to Paris or working in copperplate engraving.
I had been working at a pearl company in Kobe for almost two years, and although I was quietly waiting for a change, I had no idea what form it would take. What I could have never imagined, however, was that this change would manifest in the form of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
I endured the shock of the disaster and the subsequent months of chaos without really understanding what was going on, and before I knew it, I was searching for “where” to go and “what” to do, thinking, “I’ll try something I’ve never done before in an unfamiliar place.” And so, in November of the same year, I found myself in Paris with a suitcase and a bag.
The reason I chose France is because I majored in French philosophy at university, and I think I came across copperplate engraving by chance.
Unconsciously, carelessly, and fearlessly, I jumped into a pool without any warm-up exercises, then realised I was swimming in the ocean. Being surprised, I have kept swimming to be here today.
Fortunately, the ocean is still vast, so I’d like to explore it by swimming to see how far I can go.

パリで、銅版画。
1995年1月には、パリに引っ越すことも銅版画をすることも、全く知りませんでした。
神戸の真珠会社に勤めて2年が過ぎようとする頃で、静かに変化のきっかけをうかがってはいたものの、それがどんな形をとるのかは見当もつかなかったのです。でも、その変化が阪神淡路大震災という形で現れるとは、さらに想像外でした。
被災のショックとその後の混沌の数か月をなんだか解らないまま潜り抜け、気が付くと「知らない場所で、したことのないことをしてみよう」と、「どこ」に行って「何」をするのかを探していました。そして、同じ年の11月にはスーツケースと鞄を持ってパリにいました。なぜフランスかといえば、大学でフランス哲学専攻だったためで、銅版画に関しては偶然出会ったとしか思えません。
無意識で不用意の怖いもの知らずが、準備体操もせず、プールに飛び込んだつもりが海で泳いでいることに気づいて、あららとびっくりしつつもどんどん泳ぎ続けて今に至ります。
幸いなことに、海はまだまだ広いので、どこまでいけるか泳ぎながら探検してみたいと思っています。

Born in Osaka, Japan. She has lived and worked in Paris since 1995.
She collaborated with Isabel Marant, Le Bon Marche, J’ai lu and Rock en Seine. She uses copper plates in her own colours on the Parisian etching press in both small and large formats.Her skilled prints have been exhibited internationally including France, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Sweden, Mexico and Belgium.
In this exhibition, we sell limited number of her latest book Personal Reality Show (2024) as well as her beautiful limited print works.
